No injuries following fire on chemical tanker docked in Sabine-Neches Waterway

A fire in the cargo hold of a chemical tanker is out and the crew safely evacuated the ship, according to information Petty Officer Steve Lehmann with the U.S. Coast Guard provided to KFDM News.

The crew discovered a smoldering fire at about 2 p.m. Wednesday in the cargo hold of the Charleston, a chemical tanker docked at Gulf Copper, according to investigators.


The crew of about 25 people safely evacuated and no one was hurt, according to a spokeswoman for Acadian Ambulance.


The Port Arthur Fire Department is investigating.
