Mardi Gras kicks off with 12th Night

PORT ARTHUR - by ASHLEY GASTON - The first Mardi Gras parade rolled into the Bob Bowers Civic Center this evening.

The Krewe of Neptune calls it the shortest Mardi Gras parade, but they say it’s the best way to send beads slinging in the air.

The Krewe of Neptune organized the 12th Night celebration.  It's the kick off to Mardi Gras.

All Krewes including Southeast Texans who are not a part of a Krewe attended the 12th Night celebration.

The start of Mardi Gras is always celebrated the 1st Saturday, 12 days after the wise men brought baby Jesus gifts on Christmas.
