Fire destroys vacant home; origin ruled suspicious

ORANGE COUNTY - By Scott Lawrence:

Fire has destroyed a vacant home in Orange and investigators are calling it suspicious, according to Deputy Chief Jerald Ziller of the Orange Fire Department.

The fire was reported at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday at a home in the 1100 block of 10th Street in Orange. Flames were coming out of the windows when firefighters arrived.

They worked to protect the homes and families on each side of the burning house. No one was hurt.

Once more firefighters got to the scene they used water to put out the fire within 30 minutes and searched the home to make sure no one was inside.

The owner lives next door and notified the fire commander the home was vacant.

The Fire Marshal determined the fire is suspicious and is seeking information about people seen in the area at about 3 a.m. shortly before the fire was reported. If you have information about the fire, call the Fire Marshal at 409-883-1050.

Firefighters remained at the scene until 6:30 a.m.

The West Orange and Pinehurst Fire Departments were on standby to help out.
