Woman warns of dangers of texting while driving

WARREN - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News

Dawn Langton spent the first New Year without her husband who was killed in a car crash on December 28, 2011.

Investigators say the suspect accused of crashing into Johnny Langton’s truck was texting and driving. A grand jury indicted the woman on a charge of manslaughter.

“I couldn’t put his ornaments out,” Dawn Langton said. “It hurt. I put his stocking up and that was about all I could do, but we made it through.”

Langton recalled the moments after finding out her husband had been killed while driving home from work.

“Just screaming. That's all I could do, just scream,” she said.

A year later, the pain remains for the Langton family and close friends, including Johnny’s best friend, Tony McClelland.

“I’ve got a little boy and him and Johnny were buddies,” he said. “And the hardest question I ever answered was when that little boy asked, ‘Is Johnny coming over today?’ ‘No, he’s not,’ which leads to the next question of why… because of a text.”

Since the crash, Langton and McClelland have made it a point to stop texting and driving.

“When I see it, it infuriates me,” McClelland said. “I used to be the world’s worst. I used to always do it. I don’t do it now.”

“Texting and driving needs to be stopped, because it is not worth what has happened,” Dawn Langton said.Woman warns of dangers of texting while driving
