Investigators arrest man accused of shooting girlfriend

PORT ARTHUR - Port Arthur police tell KFDM News officers in Chambers County have detained a man accused of shooting his girlfriend twice in the head early New Year's Day in Port Arthur.

Police say they responded to a 911 call reporting an aggravated assault at Valley View Estates Apartments, 5801 Twin City Highway.

Officers found a 33-year-old woman with two gunshot wounds to her head. She was taken by ambulance to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth where she's listed in critical but stable condition. Police interviewed her and say her injuries aren't believed to be life threatening.

Investigators say the shooting followed a heated argument. According to police, the boyfriend used a 22 caliber pistol to shoot his girlfriend twice in her head. Police tell us he also struck her on the head twice with his weapon, the impact so strong it caused the gun to break in half.

Sgt. Scott Gaspard tells KFDM News Justice of the Peace Tom Gillam III signed an arrest warrant charging Ervis Chapman Jr., 32, with Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon. The charge is a 1st Degree Felony. If convicted he could face up to life in prison. Judge Gillam set bond at $200,000.

Officers in Chambers County detained Chapman at about 10:15 a.m. Tuesday.
