Port Arthur families benefit from Blue Santa

PORT ARTHUR - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News

The Port Arthur Police Department’s Blue Santa Program handed out presents to 500 children at Bob Bowers Civic Center Saturday.

It was the first time since the program’s founding that they held a Christmas party in conjunction with passing out gifts.

“This year, we wanted to do something very special and I think it's going off pretty well," Detective Steve Flores with the Port Arthur Police Department said.

The organizers purchased pizza for the families and had numerous games for the children to play.

In previous years, the parents would pick up the gifts and take them back home, but the Christmas party allowed the kids to have more interaction.

“This their first time seeing Santa,” Sedonia Keal said. “She was one last year and he'll be one on the 27th, so I'm very happy about it.”

The single mother raised three kids then chose to foster two more. She and many of the parents in attendance said the Blue Santa Program helps them provide a better Christmas for their kids.
