Pastor marries couples for 25 cents

BEAUMONT - By Megan Dillard - Wednesday's date, 12/12/12, will go down in history as a special day for one Beaumont couple.

KFDM covered their wedding and spoke with the pastor who charged only 25 cents to marry the bride and groom.

It's a typical Wednesday night at First Baptist Church in Beaumont.

A sermon, worship music, and an energetic crowd.

Tonight, there's something else. December 12, 2012.

The date Aron Palmer and Mia Williams say, "I DO."

"We didn't want a whole big formal thing because we know right now in our life, we're not ready for all that. We wanted everybody to have fun and have a good time."

"We got kids together, we built our life together, and we feel like it's time to take that next step."

The next step, getting married at church, though not in the most traditional way.

Fans of the Dallas Cowboys, the pair wore matching jerseys.

"It gives me hope that people still honor the vows of marriage."

Pastor Jordan Burton, Jr. shares that hope by marrying couples for get this, just twenty five cents.

"If people like to spend money for a big wedding, that's nice. But at the same time, if they want to spend less, that's nice too. It's about the commitment of marriage."

A commitment Burton says shouldn't be limited by a lack of money. Wedding ceremonies he'll continue to lead, to bring couples like the Palmers, closer to one another and closer to God.

"I pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss that the bride!"

The pastor has married hundreds of couples for 25 cents for several years.

Besides giving the quarter to the couple to pay for the wedding, the church also helps with the costs of the wedding bands and the marriage license.Pastor marries couples for 25 cents
