Military helicopters land in Beaumont

BEAUMONT - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News

The 842nd Transportation Battalion is receiving unit cargo by air and commercial trucks from Fort Bliss, Texas for the deployment of the 1st Armored Division, 1st Combat Aviation Brigade to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

“The president’s directive is to withdraw somewhere around the 2014 time frame, so this is just a routine rotation of one aviation brigade falling in as one redeploys back,” Battalion Commander Lt. Colonel Michael Arnold said.

He oversees the end-to-end deployment and distribution for surface shipping of the Department of Defense equipment and supplies for warfighters across the globe.

More than 100 aircraft of different airframes and up to 2,500 soldiers will be deployed.

“I don't know what we're gonna be doing, but we're ready for anything they throw at us," Chief Warrant Officer 2 Ramon Perez said.

This will be the Blackhawk pilot’s second deployment in his 15 years of service.

He joined the United States Army right after graduating high school and says he’s proud of the work he’s doing.

“When I represent the US, it's like representing something much greater than myself, something much greater than my family, something much greater than my unit. People, when they see me, they see the US."Military helicopters land in Beaumont
