Community supports Groves family; teen died after major traffic accident

BEAUMONT - by Ashley Gaston - Loved ones of a teenager who died from a brain injury she received in a major traffic accident say she was so full of life and willing to help anyone in need.

19 year old Christie Dies spent 10 days in the ICU at Christus Hospital Saint Elizabeth.

Doctors performed two surgeries on her brain to help her recover from her injuries.

She was removed from life support one month ago.

The accident happened on Saturday October 27th at about 8 o'clock on I-10 west in Beaumont.

Police say Dies lost control of her car; hit the median and the vehicle flipped several times.

Authorities say a truck then struck her vehicle.

Friends of Christie Dies held a softball tournament to help raise money for her medical and funeral expenses.

The participants played through the rain at the Beaumont Athletic complex on College Street.

Organizers say Dies would have hosted a fundraiser to help someone in need and this is one way they can help her family while they're trying to figure out how to pay her medical bills.

Christie Dies was an organ donor.

She donated two kidneys and her liver.

There will be another fundraiser on Sunday December 16th.

It will be a bowling and washer board tournament at Max Bowl bowling alley in Port Arthur.

You can contact Aaron DeLuna at 549-3844 for details.
