PAPD officer clearing debris from road struck by teen driver

PORT ARTHUR - By Justin Hinton/KFDM News - A Port Arthur police officer removing debris from a road received minor injuries Thursday night when he was struck by a 16 year old unlicensed driver, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety and Port Arthur Police Department.

Troopers say the teenage driver struck Officer Adam Cousins while the officer was removing debris from Memorial Boulevard.

Cousins was taken to a hospital where doctors treated him for his injuries and released him.

The teen was driving the car and his 86-year-old grandfather was also in the vehicle, according to police.

Officers had closed one traffic lane and were removing debris from the 2700 block of Memorial Boulevard at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday when the teen crossed over into the closed lane where Officer Cousins was working and struck him, according to the DPS.

Troopers say the teenage driver faces traffic charges for going through the lane closure.
