Staying fit during the holiday season

BEAUMONT - By Megan Dillard - Cookies are just one of the many treats people enjoy during the holiday season. KFDM hit the gym today to learn how to avoid extra pounds during this delicious time of year.

"I'm here every afternoon at this time at the gym."

Kathy Crawford didn't always spend time at World Gym in Beaumont.
"I was 50 pounds overweight a little over a year ago and pulled it off. Now I'm exercising to stay fit and so that's my motivation."

Motivation that doesn't waiver during the holidays.
"I'll have a very small piece of pie instead of a big piece."

"It could be as simple as walking your dog. It could be as simple as going, cleaning your house."

Personal trainer Adam Piazza says any activity will help you reach your fitness goals, even during the holidays.

"As long as people are in the gym and activity levels are high, normally you can snack on things. A bite or two here and there is not going to hurt you."

Time with family, traditional holiday meals, less time in the gym. It doesn't have to mean weight gain.

"Comfort level basically from just being with family, falling out of routine. Many people are off. They're usually off either from work, school."
Kathy Crawford says she'll continue marching toward her fitness goals.

One foot in front of the other, now and after the holidays.

"All you have to do is make your mind up. If your mind's not made up, you won't do it."

According to www.bodybuilding.com, people can gain between 7 and 12 pounds during the holidays.
