Salvation Army sees increase in families needing Thanksgiving help

BEAUMONT-By: Leslie Rangel

Volunteers with the Salvation Army say there's been an increase in families seeking help.

"It's the economy, there are no jobs, people are getting laid off, people can't find a job and they're also not making good money," Major Floiran Estrada of Salvation Army says.

Nearly 200 families recieved a warm thanksgiving meal today including Patricia Leiper of Vidor, who lost her job in September.

"My story is not very pretty, we've just been moving place to place since I haven't been able to go back to work," Leiper says.

She traveled to Beaumont in search of jobs with no luck, but despite the hardship she says she's glad to have the extra help.

"My kids keep my strong, you can't really be down when you got little one palying around," Leiper said.

The Salvation Army is still looking for Turkey donations to help with their Christmas meals. For information on where to donate call 409-896-2361.
